NOTE: This blog is moving to a new address. It will be located at http://www.nopurpose.org/blog/. I'm going to be stopping my posting on Vox in the near future.
Oh what I wouldn't give for a new laptop at work. This thing that I'm running now is dog slow. I mean, we're talking I change a file on one of the programs I'm writing, hit save and then I can go run some laps around the building and come back…and then maybe it'll be done.
It was nice back when I first got it, but now it's showing it's age and it's become a definite drain on my productivity here. I can't even start any programs for 15-20 minutes after I start it up.
But money is tight these days around the company, so I doubt they'll authorize a new laptop purchase for me. This thing will have to die first.
…
Hrrrrm….
Nah, I wouldn't do that.

As them to just reformat the drive (after you've backed up all your info, of course) and make sure you're as packed as you can go on your RAM – you'd be surprised how much that can help. We're doing that right now for a lot of our older PCs and it's making everyone a lot more patient.

Yeah, I might see if I can have them do that. We're a bit busy though,so it's hard to find time to do it.I could also use another GB of ram in here too, especially with the programs I run. I use a lot of Java apps
